Hi, my name is Félix-Antoine Forget and as a student in Industrial Engineering Technology, I needed to learn a lot of new concepts and definitions. I've been in this program for two years and I have learned a lot about, but I still have a lot to learn. In this glossary, I put some definition of words related to the industrial engineering that are useful in this field. This glossary will be helpful for anyone who wants to learn about this this or future students. I hope it can help you.

analysis
Detailed examination of the elements or structure of something.
System Anlasysis
development
The process of developing or being developed.
efficiency
The ratio of the useful work performed by a machine or in a process to the total energy expended or heat taken in.
ergonomic
Relating to or designed for efficiency and comfort in the working environment.
improvement
A thing that makes something better or is better than something else.
industry
Economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories.

kaizen
A Japanese business philosophy of continuous improvement of working practices, personal efficiency, etc.
kanban
Kanban in manufacturing is an inventory organization structure that uses visual cues to move inventory though various stages of the manufacturing process. It is a tool for lean manufacturing that aims to prevent inventory pileup by initiating production only to restock empty reserves.
lean management
Lean management is an approach to managing an organization that supports the concept of continuous improvement, a long-term approach to work that systematically seeks to achieve small, incremental changes in processes in order to improve efficiency and quality.
logistics
The detailed coordination of a complex operation involving many people, facilities, or supplies.
management
The process of dealing with or controlling things or people.
Management System
manufacturing
The making of articles on a large scale using machinery; industrial production.
method
A particular form of procedure for accomplishing or approaching something, especially a systematic or established one.
optimization
The action of making the best or most effective use of a situation or resource.
process
A continuous action, operation, or series of changes taking place in a definite manner.
Planning Process
productivity
The effectiveness of productive effort, especially in industry, as measured in terms of the rate of output per unit of input.
quality
The standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something.
supply chain
The sequence of processes involved in the production and distribution of a commodity.
Toyota production system
A production system based on the philosophy of achieving the complete elimination of all waste in pursuit of the most efficient methods.
visual management
Visual control is a business management technique employed in many places where information is communicated by using visual signals instead of texts or other written instructions. The design is deliberate in allowing quick recognition of the information being communicated, in order to increase efficiency and clarity.
